Why make a stop there ?

Coming from Evreux by the “Voie Verte”, Bacquepuis is the “door” which lets you enter the territory of Le Neubourg. With several ponds, it’s an enjoyable place to take a break from your walk on the Voie Verte. For a picnic or a relaxing break we recommend sitting down close to the pond behind the town hall.

A bit of history :

The church was under the patronage of the local lord. Of a rectangular plan, endow of a long nave, it was located in the south of the village and was sold in 1810 to the mayor to use it as a barn. It was destroyed during the first half of the 19th century.

In the 12th century, the parish is referenced several times in charters, under the name of “Bachepuis” or “Bakepuis”, which could come from the time when the Viking Bako owned this land. The existence of a well could be at the origin of this toponym which is associated with the one that dug it.

The little something that makes this village

This municipality has the particularity to not have a church anymore, but still noticeable because of its impressive grain silo. The small clock tower on the town hall’s roof is the only part of the Saint-Laurent church that remains.
